Open the Blogs category on the Shopify App Store and you will find 228 apps, checked on August 31, 2026. A large share of them promise the same thing: AI writes your blog posts, on autopilot.

The problem is that "autopilot" covers an enormous range. For some apps it means a draft appears when you type a prompt. For others it means posts get generated, scheduled, and published to your live store every week without you touching anything. The listing copy rarely makes clear which one you are buying.

This article starts from what Shopify already gives you for free, then compares five real apps on the same axes: pricing units, scheduling, internal linking, and admin language. Research date: August 31, 2026.

The short version

If you publish a few posts a month and already know your topics, Shopify Magic is enough. It is free on every plan and you do not need an app.

If the thing you actually want to stop doing is publishing on schedule, look at apps that explicitly list auto-scheduling. AI Blog Agent | SEO Auto Blog states auto-posting even on its free tier.

If you want posts that embed products and are laid out like real content, Tapita SEO AI Blog Builder has the widest listed feature set — but its pricing is credit-based and carries a surcharge tied to your Shopify plan.

If you need a non-English admin, your options narrow fast. Of the five apps here, only two list any language other than English in the admin.

What Shopify Magic already does

Shopify Magic is Shopify's built-in AI feature set. Per the Shopify Help Center, it is free regardless of your subscription plan, and all generally available features work on all plans and in all languages — with the caveat, stated on the same page, that access and availability can vary by feature and that language support differs for early-access features.

For blog posts specifically, you go to Content → Blog posts, and you can generate text in exactly two places: the title field and the content editor. In each, you click the generate icon and describe what you want. Tone and style are not separate settings; Shopify's guidance is to put them directly into the prompt.

Shopify's documentation is also explicit about the limits of that output:

You're responsible for the accuracy of all content that you publish to your store, even when you use automated text generation to create it.

It adds that generated text may include benefits you did not list, or facts drawn from other published content about similar products. That caveat does not disappear when you install an app.

Where the native feature stops

Shopify Magic drafts the post that is open in front of you. Based on the documented feature set, it does not cover:

• suggesting topics or keywords
• generating posts in bulk
• publishing on a daily or weekly schedule
• inserting internal or product links into the body
• tracking how the published post performs

At two or three posts a month, none of that matters. It starts mattering when you commit to publishing weekly. Come up with an angle, generate, edit, publish, review results — everything except the generation stays manual.

That surrounding workflow is what AI blog apps are actually selling.

What the table tells you

None of the five list Google Search Console under integrations. Jolt comes closest, advertising that it tracks and targets your store's most valuable Google search keywords and listing rank tracking as a feature, but no Search Console connection is stated. These are tools for producing content, not for measuring whether the content worked. Plan for that separately.

The unit of measurement is not consistent. Two apps count posts (Essential AI SEO, AI Blog Agent). Three count credits or "creations" (All in one blog, Tapita, Jolt). Tapita's listing does not state how many credits one post consumes, and Jolt's "creations" cover both posts and images without a stated breakdown. Comparing monthly prices across those two groups will mislead you.

Tapita's paid plan carries a Shopify-plan surcharge, stated on the listing as "+$5 Grow plan, +$30 Advanced plan, +$60 Shopify Plus." On Plus, the $9.99 headline becomes something quite different.

Free tiers vary more than the headline prices do. AI Blog Agent's free plan includes 3 auto-published posts per week and is described as including all premium features. Tapita's free 50 credits are explicitly non-recurring. Jolt has no free plan on its App Store listing at all — the listing reads "From $10/month. Free trial available."

Notes on each app

AI Blog Agent | SEO Auto Blog

The most explicit about full automation. Free: 3 posts/week (12/month), described as including all premium features. Paid: $8.99 for 7/week (30/month), $14.99 for 15/week (60/month), $23.99 for 40/week (160/month), each with a 14-day free trial. It is the only app of the five whose listing explicitly states automatic internal links and on-page SEO, and it states that it features and links your own products inside posts.

The caution is age. It launched in February 2025, and many of the reviews come from users who had the app for hours or days — the listing shows durations like "about 23 hours," "27 minutes," "3 days." Long-run output quality is not something those reviews can tell you. One low-rated review says the output reads as AI rather than human. Admin is English only. Note also that the listing header says "Based in United States" while the developer address is in New Zealand.

Tapita SEO AI Blog Builder

The oldest of the five (February 2022) and the most reviewed, at 451. Widest listed feature set: drag-and-drop editing, embedded products, table of contents, multi-language translation, and daily/weekly scheduled publishing.

Billing is credits. The free 50 are non-recurring; extra credits are listed at $0.06 each. Combined with the plan surcharge, this is the hardest of the five to forecast.

Reviews mention support responsiveness more than anything else. A low-rated review from August 2026 describes recurring display and editing bugs — text not rendering correctly, paragraphs running together, buttons appearing mid-page during editing — and, more importantly, credits being spent on a post before the problems surface. The developer replied that month saying the reported issues were fixed and offering to restore credits.

Essential AI SEO: AI Blog Post

Built for Shopify, 5.0 from 376 reviews, and the clearest pricing of the five: 3 posts free, then $9.99 for 30, $29.99 for 100, $99.99 for 300 per month. Bulk generation is supported, and reviews repeatedly mention producing many posts at once.

It does not list automatic internal linking, and auto-scheduling does not appear in its feature tags. The listing does use the phrase "auto post," but not in the sense of a daily or weekly publishing schedule. Read it as a tool for generating drafts in volume that a human then reviews and publishes. The listing claims generation in 13 languages, but does not say which 13.

Jolt: AI SEO Blog & Image

The only app here besides All in one blog with a non-English admin — it lists English, French, Spanish, German, Italian, and Japanese. It generates images as well as posts. Two plans on the listing: Pro at $10/month for 300 creations, Ultimate at $20/month for 800. No free plan; a free trial is offered. Scheduled auto-posting is included in both listed plans.

This app has the clearest publicly documented limitation of the five. In reply to a low-rated review reporting posts about a product that does not exist and broken placeholder links, the developer stated that automated posting cannot access your store's products and that only the advanced generator can. Set your expectations for "incorporate products into your posts" accordingly. At 4.4 from 60 reviews it also has the lowest rating here, and opinions on the image generator split sharply.

All in one blog

A Japanese-developed app whose admin is Japanese only — the listing states it is not translated into English. Free tier includes a 15-post credit; the $12/month Standard plan adds 300 post credits monthly and removes the developer's signature from the blog components. It offers persona settings, author profiles, and blog components such as product cards and share buttons.

It has one review. That is the constraint: there is essentially no operational track record to evaluate. No auto-scheduling is listed either. Relevant mainly if a Japanese-language admin is a hard requirement.

Picking by situation

Testing the water without spending anything — start with Shopify Magic. It costs nothing and tells you how much editing AI drafts need in your category before you commit to a subscription.

Consistency is the real problem — AI Blog Agent's free tier gives you 3 auto-published posts per week to test the workflow end to end.

Posts need to sell products and look designed — Tapita, provided you model the credit burn and your plan surcharge first.

Volume of drafts you will finish yourself — Essential AI SEO has the most predictable per-post pricing.

Non-English admin required — Jolt or All in one blog, accepting Jolt's automation limitation and All in one blog's near-absent review history.

Before you install

• Is what you are missing the generation itself, or the work around it?
• Are limits counted in posts or credits? If credits, how many per post?
• Does your Shopify plan add a surcharge?
• If you enable auto-publishing, is a human still reviewing before it goes live?
• Who checks generated posts for products or specs that do not exist?
• Have you checked admin language and output language separately?
• Where will you measure rankings and traffic, given that none of these apps integrate Search Console?
• What happens to published posts and layouts if you uninstall?

Bottom line

Three questions decide this.

Does Shopify Magic already cover you? It is free and works in every supported language. If it does, there is no case for a subscription.

Which step do you actually want to hand off? Ideation, generation, scheduling, or product linking. These apps cover different subsets, and that difference affects your workflow more than a $5 price gap does.

How are limits counted, and how will you measure results? Credit-based pricing and plan surcharges break naive monthly comparisons. And since none of these five treat post-publication measurement as a core feature, the loop that turns published posts into decisions has to be built outside the app.
