If you paste the first paragraph into a search description, a greeting may become the entire reason offered for reading the post. Instead, summarize whose question the article answers and what it covers.
Smart Agent Blog provides an SEO description field. Use it to explain the article, while remembering that the final search display is not fully controlled by this input.
Draft the reader, question and content
For a fictional bag guide, the reader is a first-time commuter-bag buyer. The question is how to judge size and storage. The content covers checking daily items, internal dimensions and pockets.
A draft could be: “Choosing your first commuter bag? Learn how to check your everyday items, compare internal dimensions and assess pocket layouts.” Do not add a comparison or offer that the body does not contain.
| Ingredient | What to write down |
|---|---|
| Reader | The person or situation addressed |
| Question | The uncertainty the article resolves |
| Content | Specific topics the reader will find |
Replace generic promotion with useful context
“Discover our quality products today” could describe almost any page. Details about what the article explains distinguish it from other posts. You do not need every detail; choose the main question and make the scope clear.
Avoid promising complete solutions when the article only covers part of a decision. The description should help the right reader choose the page, not attract everyone regardless of relevance.
Enter the description in Smart Agent Blog
- Open the article editor.
- Find the search engine listing section below the body.
- Enter a one- or two-sentence SEO description.
- Compare it with the title and save.
The app preview shows the first 150 characters. That is a preview behavior, not a guarantee of how many characters a search engine will display.
The displayed snippet may differ
Google can generate snippets from page content and may use the meta description. The field does not force exact wording in search. See Google’s snippet documentation.
Keep the opening paragraph clear as well. A polished description does not fix a body that discusses a different subject.
Review it when the article changes
Update the description after replacing products, removing comparison sections or ending a campaign. Otherwise the entrance to the article may keep promising obsolete information. Start with one important post and check that its description is specific to the current content.
A description is one part of how readers find the post. Our guide to Shopify blog marketing covers the wider picture.
