What you will learn

A gift registry is not a wishlist with a nicer name. Three things have to happen that a wishlist never does: a person who is not the account holder buys an item, the item ships to an address the buyer did not enter, and the list decrements so the next guest sees the blender is already taken.
The Shopify admin does none of those. There is no registry object, no way to attach a purchase to someone else's list, and no mechanism for shipping an order to an address the buyer never sees. Shopify's own App Store acknowledges this with a dedicated Gift registry category under Store management, which is the clearest possible statement that the feature is not in the platform.
What you are actually buying
Once you accept that an app is required, the next question is what the app charges for — and here the category is more consistent than most. Four of the five listings we checked meter the same thing: active registries.
That unit sounds obvious and is not. A registry created in March for an August wedding is active for five months. A baby registry that the registrant abandoned after adding two items is also, presumably, active. None of the five listings we read defines when a registry stops counting, and the difference between "created this month" and "still open" is the difference between one plan and the next.
Here is what $15 buys, from three different developers:
| App | Plan | Active registries included | Overage |
|---|---|---|---|
| Gift Reggie: Gift Registry | Essentials $15/month | 25 | $0.60/month per registry over 25 |
| Swym Gift Lists and Registries | Starter $15/month | 25 | Not stated on the listing |
| Little Registry: Gift Registry | Basic $15/month | 25 | $0.80/month per registry over 25, 7-day grace period |
All figures from each app's Shopify App Store listing, US locale, retrieved September 2, 2026.
Three independent teams landed on the same number for the same capacity. That is not collusion; it is what happens when a category matures and everyone benchmarks the same competitor. It also means price is not the differentiator at the low end — capability is.
Price becomes the differentiator quickly above it.
At 250 registries the spread is $29 to $99
Run each listing's own pricing table out to 250 active registries — a plausible year for a homeware or baby brand that promotes registries at all:
- Gift Reggie: Gift Registry — Expert plan at $40/month includes 100, then $0.10/month per additional registry. 150 extra registries is $15. Total $55/month.
- Swym Gift Lists and Registries — Premium at $99/month for up to 250. That is the top plan shown on the listing; anything beyond 250 is behind "See all pricing options."
- Little Registry: Gift Registry — Premium at $99/month for up to 300.
- AAA‑ Advance Gift Registry App — one plan, $29/month, unlimited registries.
- MyRegistry Lite — free to install, additional charges may apply. Not directly comparable; see below.
The ordering inverts. At 25 registries Gift Reggie, Swym and Little Registry are identically priced. At 250, Gift Reggie's declining overage rate — $0.75 on Basic, $0.60 on Essentials, $0.25 on Professional, $0.10 on Expert — makes it roughly 45% cheaper than the two fixed-tier apps, and a flat $29 unlimited plan undercuts everything.
Before you conclude that the cheapest wins, look at what the tiers actually gate.
Gift Reggie: Gift Registry — the overage model, and POS behind the top tier

Gift Reggie: Gift Registry is developed by Modd Apps Inc. in Montreal, launched on the App Store on April 9, 2014, and is rated 4.8 across 179 reviews — the longest track record and the largest review base in this comparison.
Four plans: Basic $9 (5 registries), Essentials $15 (25), Professional $30 (50), Expert $40 (100), each with the declining per-registry overage described above. Trials are 7 days on the two lower plans and 30 days on the two upper ones.
What sits where matters more than the price. Password-protected registries and registry messaging start at Essentials. Stock tracking and warnings — so a guest is not offered an item you cannot ship — starts at Professional. And the Expert plan at $40 is where the operationally significant features live: full Point of Sale support, in-store barcode scanning, custom line item property tracking, API access, and full Shopify Flow support.
That last cluster is the real decision point for a physical retailer. If couples come into your store to scan items onto their registry, you are on the $40 plan regardless of how many registries you run, and the volume arithmetic above is irrelevant.
Gift Reggie's listing requests sensitive customer data along with access to customers, products, orders, gift cards, Online Store and custom data — a broad set, consistent with an app that has to create and attribute orders.
Swym Gift Lists and Registries — a free tier and a visible ceiling

Source: Shopify App Store (Swym Gift Lists and Registries), retrieved September 2, 2026
Swym Gift Lists and Registries comes from Swym Corporation in Seattle, launched March 16, 2023, rated 4.6 across 36 reviews. Its plans are the simplest in the category because they gate on one axis only: Free for up to 5 active registries, Starter $15 for 25, Pro $50 for 100, Premium $99 for 250. Annual billing saves 16–17%. Trials on paid plans are 30 days.
The free tier is not a demo — five live registries is enough for a small store to find out whether customers use the feature at all before committing budget. That is a genuinely useful thing to have in a category where the failure mode is buying a $50/month app and getting eleven registries a year.
The trade-off is that the listing does not describe feature differences between tiers. Whatever Swym includes, it appears to include at every level, which means you are paying purely for capacity — good if you want a predictable bill, less good if you wanted a cheap plan with the advanced features.
Swym Corporation also publishes Swym Wishlist Plus on the App Store, so if you already run that in the same store, shared shopper identity is worth asking their team about before you compare on price alone.
Little Registry: Gift Registry — the only listing that advertises address masking

Source: Shopify App Store (Little Registry: Gift Registry), retrieved September 2, 2026
Little Registry: Gift Registry is developed by Hiplo Studio in New York and launched December 27, 2024 — the newest app here, with a 5.0 rating from 3 reviews. Three reviews is not a sample; treat the rating as unproven and the app as early.
What earns it a place in this comparison is a feature nobody else lists. The description states the app masks registrants' shipping addresses during checkout and lets them choose who can view the list. That addresses the single most uncomfortable property of a public gift registry: the registrant is publishing, to anyone with the link, a list that has to end with a package arriving at their home.
The catch is where it sits. Masking User Address from Gift Givers is listed on the Premium plan at $99/month, alongside multi-store POS and custom integrations. Password-protected and private registries start lower, at Basic $15. So the privacy control most people would assume is the baseline is, on this listing, the top tier.
Plans run Free (5 registries), Basic $15 (25), Growth $50 (100), Premium $99 (300), with overage at $0.80, $0.30 and $0.15 per registry per month respectively and a stated 7-day grace period before overage applies. POS support arrives at Growth $50; the multi-store POS app at Premium.
AAA‑ Advance Gift Registry App — flat and unlimited, with a thin listing

Source: Shopify App Store (AAA‑ Advance Gift Registry App), retrieved September 2, 2026
AAA‑ Advance Gift Registry App is published by AAAeCommerce Inc, based in Claymont, Delaware, launched September 11, 2017, and rated 4.7 across 27 reviews. It has one plan: $29/month with a 14-day free trial, and the feature list is three lines long — create unlimited registries, share with friends, collect more gifts.
Unlimited at $29 is the best volume deal in the comparison by a wide margin, and for a store expecting hundreds of registries with modest requirements, that is the whole analysis.
But the listing is quiet on everything the other four are explicit about. There is no statement about POS, no stock tracking, no address handling, no password protection, no line item property tracking, no Shopify Flow. Absent information is not the same as absent capability — the app may do these things — but under our own sourcing rules we can only report what the developer states, and this developer states very little. Twenty-seven reviews across nine years is also a thin evidence base compared with Gift Reggie's 179.
If the flat price is what draws you, the trial exists for exactly this: confirm the address and POS behaviour yourself before the second month.
MyRegistry Lite — a different product wearing the same category label

Source: Shopify App Store (MyRegistry Lite), retrieved September 2, 2026
MyRegistry Lite, from MyRegistry.com in Fort Lauderdale, launched October 14, 2021 and rated 3.9 across 11 reviews, is free to install with additional charges that may apply and upgrades available.
Read the description carefully and it is not the same product as the other four. It is an entry-level integration that places your products into MyRegistry's universal registry network, described on the listing as being designed for retailers with modest website traffic. The value proposition is discovery — appearing alongside global brands on a registry platform your customer is already using — rather than running registries on your own storefront.
That is a legitimate strategy and a completely different one. If your goal is "a couple registering at my store," you want one of the four above. If your goal is "reach couples who already registered somewhere else and add my products to their list," this is the only listing here that does it, and the price of the Lite tier is zero.
Decision rules
You want to find out whether customers will use a registry at all. Swym Gift Lists and Registries or Little Registry: Gift Registry, both free for 5 active registries. Run a season before you pay anything.
You run a physical store and couples will scan items in person. Gift Reggie: Gift Registry at Expert $40/month. POS and in-store barcode scanning are gated to that plan, and no volume calculation changes it.
You expect 200+ active registries and need standard features. Gift Reggie's Expert plan plus $0.10 overage lands around $55/month at 250, against $99 for the fixed-tier alternatives. AAA‑ Advance Gift Registry App at $29 flat is cheaper still if its trial confirms it does what you need.
A registrant's home address must not be visible to gift givers. Little Registry: Gift Registry Premium at $99/month is the only listing in this set that advertises address masking. If that requirement is non-negotiable, it decides the app and the tier at once.
You want reach, not infrastructure. MyRegistry Lite, free to install.
Whichever you pick, ask the developer one question before you commit: when does a registry stop being active? Every plan in this category is priced on that word, and not one listing defines it. A wedding registry that stays "active" for a year after the wedding is an overage charge you did not plan for — the same pricing-denominator problem that shows up across metered Shopify apps.

Shopify's admin address validation is on by default, free, on every plan, and supports the US. Checkout-time validation is one toggle away. Shopify's own documentation then warns that running a third-party address validation app at the same time can create conflicting suggestions and reduce checkout conversion — you are meant to pick one. That reframes the whole category: apps are not there to duplicate deliverability checking, they are there to enforce policy Shopify's validator does not enforce, like blocking PO boxes or requiring an apartment number. We priced four real apps from the US App Store on September 2, 2026, spanning $4.99/month flat, $0.04 per order, and one that requires a separate subscription billed outside Shopify.
