Glossary
Some words mean different things on different screens. Each entry below states where the term appears.
AI provider
The service that writes AI text. Depending on the setting, Smart Agent Blog uses OpenAI (ChatGPT) or Anthropic (Claude Code).
CTA
A button, or a link styled as a button, that asks the reader to take a next action. Article analytics shows the number as CTA count and the click rate as CTA CTR. There is no block named CTA; it is detected from the article content.
CTR (click-through rate)
| Where | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Article analytics — Product link CTR, Related article CTR, CTA CTR | The share of readers who selected a link or button inside the article. Denominator: measured views |
| SEO report email, and the AI Rewrite current-metrics panel | The share of Google search impressions that resulted in a click |
They measure different clicks. Do not compare one against the other.
Google Search Console
Google's service for reviewing how a site appears in search, including queries, impressions, clicks, and average position. Connected data is used in the SEO report email and AI Rewrite. It is not shown on the article analytics screen.
OGP
The mechanism that controls the title, description, and image shown when an article is shared on social media.
PV (page view)
One recorded view of an article page. Several views by the same person may be counted separately.
SEO
Work that helps the right people find an article in search engines. It includes accurate, readable content as well as search-result presentation.
SEO title
The title intended for search results. It can be set separately from the article title.
SEO description
The description shown below the title in search results. A search service may display different text.
Impressions
Times the article appeared in Google search results, whether or not it was opened.
Impressions are not shown on the article analytics screen. They appear in the SEO report email and in the AI Rewrite current-metrics panel.
Completion rate
Shown in the AI Rewrite current-metrics panel, not in article analytics. It is the share of views that scrolled to very nearly the end of the article.
Article analytics has no metric named completion rate. Use Qualified read rate instead.
Article purpose
The classification that determines which metrics article analytics weights: SEO and acquisition, Education and editorial, Product guide or comparison, or Campaign. AI selects one initially, and you can change it manually.
Measurement coverage
The share of completed views for which reading data was received. It appears in detailed metrics. Low coverage also lowers confidence in the other figures.
Measured views
Views for which reading data, such as time on screen and scrolling, was received. Many rates in article analytics use this number rather than PV as their denominator.
Visible
The state in which customers can view the article on the store.
Hidden or draft
The article is saved but not normally visible to customers. Use this state for checks before publication.
Return rate
The share of readers who returned to the same article. It appears in detailed article metrics.
Thumbnail
The image that represents an article. Its exact placement depends on the theme.
Diagnostic scores
Four scores out of 100: Reach, Reading, Action, and Conversion. Each is compared with your other articles with the same purpose. If there is not enough comparable data, Collecting data appears instead.
Confidence
An indication of how much to trust the figures: High, Medium, or Low. It is based on measured views and measurement coverage and also appears on recommendations.
Short exit rate
The share of measured views that ended within 10 seconds with almost no scrolling or clicks.
Bounce rate
Shown in the AI Rewrite current-metrics panel, not in article analytics. It is the share of views that left without any in-page activity being recorded. A high figure is not automatically a problem.
Article analytics has no metric named bounce rate. The closest figure is Short exit rate.
Direct and assisted revenue
Direct revenue is attributed directly to the article. Assisted revenue means the article contributed indirectly. Purchases are split in the same way.
Theme
The Shopify setting that controls the storefront's appearance.
Theme template
The layout used for a type of page, such as a blog article.
Handle
The final editable part of a Shopify page URL.
Average active reading time
The average time readers spent actively viewing the article.
Block
A unit of article content, such as a heading, image, video, table, table of contents, inserted product, callout, speech balloon, or two- or three-column layout. See Add content to an article.
Goal achievement
A score out of 100 that weights metrics for the article purpose. The badge is Strong at 70 or above, On track at 50 or above, Improvement opportunity below 50, or Collecting data when data is insufficient.
Qualified read rate
The share of measured views that reached 90% of the article and remained long enough to read it.
Live viewers
An approximate count of people reading articles now. It counts views recorded in the last 90 seconds and refreshes every 30 seconds, so it takes a little while to return to zero.
