Show authors in multiple languages

Author profiles created in Smart Agent Blog can be translated with Shopify's Translate & Adapt app. When a customer changes the storefront language, the author's name, job title, and biography can be shown in that language.

Do not create a separate author in Smart Agent Blog for every language. Keep one author profile and add its translations in Translate & Adapt.

Before you begin

  1. Create the source author under Settings → Authors in Smart Agent Blog.
  2. In Shopify admin, open Settings → Languages and confirm that the target language has been added.
  3. Install Shopify Translate & Adapt if it is not already installed.

Translate an author

  1. From Shopify admin, open Apps → Translate & Adapt.
  2. Select the language that you want to translate into.
  3. Open the Smart Agent Blog author content from the resource list.
  4. Select the author. If it is not visible, search for the author's name in the store's default language.
  5. Enter the translated name, job title, and biography in the fields shown.
  6. Select Save.

Only fields shown in Translate & Adapt can be translated. Fields without a translation input, such as the photo or social URLs, continue to use the shared value from Smart Agent Blog.

Using automatic translation

Treat automatic translation as a draft. Review names, proper nouns, and job titles before saving.

Check the storefront

  1. Open a blog article in the translated storefront language.
  2. Confirm that the author's name, job title, and biography use the translated content.
  3. Return to the default language and confirm that the source profile still appears.

When a field has no translation, Shopify displays the default-language content. If the entire author profile is missing, see Register an author.

After changing the default-language profile

Changing the author's name, job title, or biography in Smart Agent Blog can make an existing translation out of sync.

Open Translate & Adapt after changing the source content. Review any out-of-sync translation, update it if needed, and check the storefront again.

If a translation does not appear

  • Confirm that the target language is published under Settings → Languages in Shopify admin.
  • Confirm that you edited the correct language and author in Translate & Adapt.
  • Wait a few minutes after saving, and then reload the storefront page.
  • Confirm that the translated author is assigned to the article you are viewing.
  • Confirm that the storefront is currently showing the target language.

For general Translate & Adapt instructions, see Shopify's guide to adding language translations.
